Hippotherapy is a special type of therapy where licensed therapists use the natural movement of a horse to help client's improve balance, coordination, strength, posture, communication, and sensory regulation. It looks like riding, but it’s actually a medical therapy session designed around the client's specific goals.


No. At Car-ynne 4 Kids, hippotherapy is delivered by licensed physical, occupational, or speech therapists as part of a medical treatment plan.


Hippotherapy can be beneficial for clients with:


  • Autism spectrum disorder
  • Cerebral palsy
  • Down syndrome
  • Developmental delays
  • Sensory processing challenges
  • ADHD
  • Speech and language delays
  • Balance and coordination difficulties
  • Neurological or genetic conditions


If you’re unsure whether you or your child is a good candidate, we’re happy to talk with you.


Because therapy is provided by licensed therapists, many insurance plans may cover services as PT, OT, or Speech Therapy. We can help you check your benefits.  Private pay options are also available.


Yes. Sessions are conducted by licensed therapists with trained staff and side walkers. Horses are specially selected and trained for therapy work. Helmets are required.


Who is present during a session?
Typically:

  • A licensed therapist (PT, OT, or SLP)
  • A horse handler
  • One or two side walkers for support


Most sessions last 30–45 minutes, depending on the client's needs and tolerance.


Sessions may include:

  • Tacking and grooming the horse
  • Mounting and positioning on the horse
  • Activities to improve balance, posture, speech, or coordination
  • Games and tasks while on the horse
  • Dismount and review


  • Long pants
  • Closed-toe shoes
  • Comfortable clothing suitable for outdoor activity  


Yes, parents are welcome to observe!


We have indoor or covered facilities, or sessions may be rescheduled if necessary.
